This book by Kirsten Gronbjerg was published in 1993, and was the culmination of extensive, in-depth long-term research with a number of social services and community development organizations during the 1980's.

Until the publication of Financing Nonprofits, the book was the only study of funding strategies of nonprofits available. The analysis demonstrates, amongst many other things, the importance of the institutional environment - who has the money and power in a given area of activity, and of transaction costs - the often hidden opportunity costs of sources of funds. For several years, the book was out of print, but Ms.Gronbjerg has now made the book available online at
