NCNE has distilled its research and thinking of the last four years about nonprofit income to create this training. The workshop is aimed at Executive Directors, Board members, CFO's and Senior Development Staff, and consultants who are wanting to help their nonprofit clients with their sustainability.
Participants who complete this training will take away:
- new insights into how to link the development of income strategy to a nonprofit's mission;
- a fresh understanding of diversification of sources of support;
- knowledge of the main characteristics and management implications of the main forms of support for nonprofits;
- tools with which they can take a new approach to identifying all the potential sources of income for a nonprofit organization, make an initial assessment of that potential in the case of each source, and make decisions about which sources of income to pursue.
Registration will include a copy of NCNE's book Financing Nonprofits: Putting Theory into Practice, as well as a workbook and other resources to assist application of the learning from the workshop in the workplace.
The training is available in one day and two day formats. The one day version, and the first day of the two day workshop, will introduce all the learning described here through trainer inputs, debate and dialogue with participants and group work on a detailed case study. The second day of the longer workshop will be devoted to enabling participants to applying the learning to their own organizations.
We will be delivering this training initially through partnerships with institutions and organizations like larger nonprofits, umbrella groups, capacity building institutions and associations of consultants.

We recently presented much of the thinking that underpins this training at our national conference in Arlington, VA. Here are some of the things people said in response.
"Provided a framework for thinking about diversification and financing options, including commercial enterprise......Very timely information – nonprofits are very challenged in the funding diversification arena........Adds important theoretical foundation to strategic planning........Great dialogue. Very insightful...........Very thought provoking. Engaging and cutting edge..........Will add another dimension to my efforts to educate the board and do strategic planning."
